Guangyang Secondary School (GYSS) Parent Support Group (PSG) was officially formed after the merger of Braddell Westlake and Guangyang Secondary School and also in support of Ministry of Education’s COMPASS to promote and strengthen the collaboration between school, parents and community in education.
The main aim of GYSS PSG was to work in partnership with the school to nurture our pupils into lifelong and engaged learners. PSG works towards an effective relationship whereby members contribute innovative and positive ideas towards promoting school, home and community collaboration for mutual benefit and quality education for our pupils.
The PSG group holds monthly meetings and these meetings served as effective platforms whereby members pool ideas and resources and to foster parental events.
PSG achieves the above aim through the following events: Chinese knots workshop during Chinese New Year, conducting dumping wrapping session during Duan Wu Jie, promoting cultural and ethnic awareness during Racial Harmony Day celebration and Facilitators in environmental programs during Community Day.
In 2008, School Family Education (SFE) was introduced into GYSS. SFE coordinator and GYSS PSG initiated several programs and workshops for the parents. Workshops include talks on mentoring teens in the internet age and financial management. There were also family bonding programs such as excursions to Marina Barrage and bowling at Civil Service Club.
Over the years, our PSG has gradually grown stronger in strength and members aspire to increase participation of our parents in all areas of school activities to provide a more conducive educational environment for our pupils in years to come. |
