The Guangyang family commemorates its 100th year in 2018. From our humble beginnings serving the Yio Chu Kang community, Guangyang has grown to become the “Light of Bishan” (Guang means “light” in Mandarin), an institution which aims to engage and grow our students to their fullest potential so that they become well-rounded individuals, equipped with the skills and competencies for lifelong learning. With these, our graduates will be able to effectively navigate life and the workplace of the 21st century. At the same time, they will be grounded in the school’s sound and relevant 5G values (Gratitude, Gratefulness, Giving, Green and Graciousness) which will anchor them as they become effective contributors to their families and the community around them long after they have graduated.
In 2018, we have adopted the theme “Our Heritage, Our Strengths, Our Future’ as we reflect on the paths that our pioneers have carved for us, appreciate the strengths that we share as a community and strategise ways we can prepare ourselves for the future ahead. Every community has a story to tell and each student and staff member contributes to and draws from that collective memory. Guangyang’s century-strong storehouse of stories are rich life lessons to draw from. These stories help us learn about and appreciate our individual strengths and the strengths of our collective identity. Growing this identity helps bind and grow us in preparation for the future ahead. Together as one, the Guangyang community will grow and flourish as we progress towards our 200th year!
